Three things to Read, Watch and Use When Setting Goals

Three things to Read, Watch and Use When Setting GoalsWhen people are planning their goals, there are different ways of going about it. Some use sophisticated means such as in company goal setting systems or simply a particular journal they write in. Whatever the case may be, one thing is utterly important when setting goals: to have the right mindset. Imagine, you think about doing more sports because your friends do it, but you, yourself, are not totally convinced that you want to do it and that you will succeed. What is likely to happen?

I will share with you three great resources to set your mind into the right spirit and focus to move full speed ahead, ready?

Good book to read

One of my favorite books on success in business is the modern fable by Robin Sharma, The Leader Who Had No Title. While I am not totally fond of the writing style of this book, it uncovers some great points that people should be aware of. The great assets they have (not only physical, but also mental) and what an important role it plays to know what you do, how you do it and especially WHY you do it.

In my belief, when setting any type of goal, we tend to focus a lot on the what and the how, but equally important, we should focus on the why. If we know why we like to do certain things and reach certain objectives, the easier we can identify ourselves with it and the more energy we have striving towards it.

Good video watch

What you need to watch is this TED talk by Ken Robinson (by nature TED talks are quite short). It is not only inspiring in terms of creativity, but it also illustrates that we often limit ourselves. We no longer think outside of the box, because we do not know how to. Or, we no longer want to. It is eye opening! I have watched this talk many times now over the last years, and every time I get something new out of it. Above all, it is a great inspiration and incentive to discover our own creativity!

Good app to use

Even when still being in a goal defining mode, it is a good idea to download the Lift app. This free app allows you to enter your goals and track your progress. It also creates a community around those goals and lets you exchange with like-minded people around the world. You can see who else has the same goal as you and what their status is. You can exchange with them to get an additional motivation. In the beginning, when you are not sure how to define your goals in detail, take a look at what is written by others, maybe you find something of value to you.

If you are more of a writer, an action book from Behance seems like a great way to go. It was recommended to me and I ordered one myself. Eager to try it out!
