Three Motivational Quotes for Your Friday At Work

Three Motivational Quotes for Your Friday At WorkHow about a few motivational quotes and tips for this Friday morning? I felt like I needed some, so here are the quotes I have selected. Maybe it provides you an additional dose of inspiration and energy for the day!?

1. Focus on what you excel at

“It is not for me to judge another man’s life. I must judge, I must choose, I must spurn, purely for myself. For myself, alone.”
― Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha

All too often, people do not focus on what they are good at, they want to do everything, they say ‘yes’ to a lot of things at work and they want to be good at everything. And in case they are not, it is often somebody else’s fault and not their own.

Today’s advice, look at your agenda for the day, limit your activities to what you really have to do and what you are good at (usually something that you like doing). Delegate the rest, if possible. Leave some time to clean up your inbox and office desk before you head out of the office to have a fresh start on Monday.

2. Accept and learn from the challenges as they come

“When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change; at such a moment, there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened or in saying that we are not yet ready. The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back. A week is more than enough time for us to decide whether or not to accept our destiny.” ― Paulo Coelho, The Devil and Miss Prym

People face many different types of challenges, whether in their private or business life. And for whatever reason many of those business challenges pop up on a Friday, surprisingly enough. Even though they can be nerve racking and time consuming, we should make the most of it and learn from it.

Earlier this morning, I found out that I am invited to a business lunch with some public relation experts next week. Nothing wrong with a business lunch, but soon after the invitation I received a second email from someone claiming I should not attend the lunch as it was his idea and not the person’s who send the invitation.  Now, here is a conflict situation. Gladly, I am not in the middle of it.

What was your latest challenge? Do you write down your lessons learned on a particular situation or project? This helps not only to reflect, but also to digest and improve next time.

3. Be thankful

“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” – Oprah Winfrey

This morning I woke up being grumpy, and I do not know why. This is silly. Fortunately, I remembered a lesson I learned a while ago to ask myself “why” I feel in a certain way. If I cannot answer this question within the next minute, I tell myself I have no reason whatsoever to be in a bad mood. On the contrary, I should be happy. Happy and thankful for what I have and how lucky I am! And believe it, that method works for me.

Being happy is one way to value what you have. To appreciate and enjoy the people around you, the places you are at, the things you can and like to do. It is not always about achieving and striving forward to the next goal. Stop, realize what you have accomplished and enjoy it!

  1. One quote that has always stuck in my mind is “Baby steps count, as long as you’re moving in the right direction.” This has been what I’ve been thinking lately, but more so pertaining to my weight loss efforts with Weight Watchers. My friend has dropped 9 lbs and is rubbing it in my face, whereas in the same amount of time, I’ve only lost 3 pounds. However, it’s a LOSS, albeit very slow, but still a loss. That quote about baby steps applies to anything in your life when you’re moving slower than you’d like– as long as you’re moving in the right direction, don’t be so concerned about how fast or slow you’re moving. Just be thankful you’re moving 🙂

Hey Serena, great quote and very valid, thank you for sharing! Moving forward counts and quotes on the way are great motivators! And you are reminding my of an objective I want to tackle this spring time.

  2. Focusing on what you are good is something that many of us don’t do. We tend to try to do everything, but if we focused on what we’re good to at we could accomplish more.

When you encounter things that you aren’t your expertise, you can always ask for help.

    Great quotes.

  3. It is so important to be thankful and to count our blessings. When we remember those things, everything looks brighter and gives us a reason to keep going.

A quote that I have hanging near my desk says “When you face adversity, rather than seeing the world as being against you, live as if it’s conspiring to make you better.” (Self Magazine)
