No Lies for 48 Hours!

no lies Simon SinekWhen was the last time you caught yourself telling a (little) lie to someone?

If I am totally honest, for me, the last time was last night on the telephone with a stranger. I only told a little lie, like “Yes, I totally agree with what you are saying”, but in reality I was not.

You might say that is not a real lie, that does not do great harm to anyone, and you are right. Nonetheless, we tell lies, whether big or small, and often we tell them just to protect ourselves. But of what exactly? To not get humiliated maybe? Hmmm….

So, as I hate lies since I am a little kid (especially when a close friend pulled my leg telling me that he had a signed autograph from Michael Jackson and I believed it for a long time…), I have decided to take up this challenge, which was encouraged by Simon Sinek in an interview for the Good Life Project of Jonathan Fields.

no lies _ Simon SinekAs you might know, I am a big fan of Simon Sinek, the Author of the Bestseller „Start With Why“ (I really have a signed copy – see proof :-)). The book is all about the importance of knowing why we do what we do, “not only what and how”. And I love it. There is even an online course available with great videos with Simon explaining how to discover why we really do what we do.

So, during this exchange with Jonathan Fields he talks about a challenge he took up to tell the truth for 48 hours, no matter what circumstances he was in or whom he exchanged with. And he tells a great story, but I leave that for you to watch below (Hint: it is about 3 minutes into the discussion).

I am taking this challenge as well! Will you join me!?? To make it even more difficult the challenge is up as of now! So, the challenge starts now, from Friday, October 18th at 1pm until Sunday, October 20th, 1pm (Berlin time, GMT+1).

Are you in? Leave a comment below!

P.S.: In case you happen to read this post later, you can always schedule your own 48 hour challenge!

  1. Hey Jantje!
Another great post! I’m trying to think of the last lie I told and I any remember. For the most part, I am pretty honest but like you, may tell a white lie to not make someone feel bad. But I’m going to be more cognizant of what I say to people over the next 2 days! Let’s do it! Hope you are well!!

      Hello Serena,
thank you for stopping by & great to hear that you are joining the challenge! Like you say, I believe it is especially difficult for those white lies that one tends to drop here and there, without paying major attention. Let’s do it!
